Sample English MC - Grammar About the Exam Registration for Optional Grade 12 Exams Student's choice, NOT the school's choice to write the exam Registration for students writing optional exams takes place at the same time as registration for required exams. Students who registered for an optional exam but who do not attend the exam sitting will receive their school mark as their final mark for the course. The student may be registered and write the exam in another sitting provided he or she is registered within the time permitted in the guidelines for exam writing. Students who are registered for an optional exam and who sign in for the exam, regardless of whether they answer any of the questions, will be considered to have made an exam attempt. Once an attempt has been made the exam will count toward the final mark, i.e., students can not opt to take their school mark only once they have attempted the exam. This attempt will count for 40 percent of the student’s final letter grade for the course. It is extremely important that schools make students aware of the implications of signing in for and attempting an exam.
